Germany faces many vital decisions as a central power.  The choice to carve out a foothold in the north is one that can result in his downfall or triumph.

One recent German solo I obtained came from me deciding to focus north immediately in Fall 1901.
I came to this decision because I wasn't sure if I could trust England, Russia, or France.  I figured that by moving to SKA I'd have the option of picking my ally.  Thankfully, this proved to be the case.

I thought that I had developed a new novel opening for Germany.  But, that old saying is also true in Diplomacy: There is nothing new under the sun

The opening is called the Jutland Gambit and has been written on by Edi Birsan.  You can read about it at the Diplomacy Archive.  For a more pro-English take on how to make Sweden German, head over to the Diplomatic Pouch.
